The transition from fall to winter weather has always been my favorite time of the year, and has inspired me to seek out outfits that accommodate the in-between temperature. I wanted to focus on minimalist items that gave off a modern vintage style, as this season's trend is all about vintage print (look at the major comeback with plaid, for example). Solid colors work so well with printed skirts/bottoms, because you can interchange them with other pieces to create new outfits. And if you're a student on a budget like myself, then you want those few items for your wardrobe that can go a long way and still appear stylish (making fewer items into more outfits!). Here is a mini lookbook of three outfits I created from recurring pieces, to show you that you can mix and match your clothes with staple items. Outfit details will be listed below.

Green turtleneck: Forever21 / Plaid Skirt: Ross / Shoes: Yesstyle / Coat: Thrifted / Scrunchie: Forever21

Solid-colored sweaters and sweatshirts are great staples for your wardrobe this winter. Pair a simple turtleneck or pullover with a plaid skirt.

Gray turtleneck: Thrifted / Plaid skirt: Ross / Shoes: Yesstyle / Coat: Thrifted / Scrunchie: Forever21

Your local thrift stores have neutral-colored turtlenecks and sweaters dying to be worn. Experiment with colors such as brown, beige, gray, and add a pop of color with an accessory! My yellow scrunchie contrasts well with the coat.

Not even the cold will stop me from wearing insanely short skirts. Tip: practice sitting before your purchase a cute skirt, so you actually know what you are dealing with.

If you are really digging the vintage trend, plaid is a must! Pointed heels are in now, too. These cute shoes are from @yesstyle.

Black boots go with just about any winterwear. These were thrifted, but can also be found at Ross.

Gray turtleneck: Thrifted / Skirt: Forever21 / Shoes: Thrifted/Ross / Scrunchie: Forever21:

If you're like me, and want to achieve the kind-of-cute-librarian look, invest in a longer plaid skirt. This item was from Forever21.

Pairing a coat on any outfit really has the power to top off the overall look. Also kind of helps you pretend you are in a 40s film.
